Manawatu Musician Makers! - We're a Music Tuition school in Palmerston North, and you could be a tutor on our team if you fit the bill.
Our timetable is really busy at the moment and we have students waiting, so we're looking for someone to join us who can play drums and thinks they've got what it takes to teach students.
We have 14 tutors and teach guitar, drums, bass, violin, vocals and keyboards/piano to around 180 students each week. We're a pop/rock school so if that interests you more than other genres then keep reading.
Ideally you are someone who loves music, and who'll fit right in with the team. If you are looking for a normal turn-up-and-get-paid job then this probably isn't you; but if you are looking to be part of an energetic, exciting team of musos who enjoy teaching, (and learning!!), and want to pass on their skills and art then maybe you're the one.
If you've had experience teaching drums already then that's great, but if you haven't, and think you have what it takes to teach young people, teenagers and adults, then you could be our person. We have loads of resources for you to use and you can get guidance from our other tutors as you find your feet. We guarantee you'll learn and grow personally in a role like this and we're happy to take the right person over the right experience.
You don't need to be Neil Peart or John Bonham but you will be able hold your own on the drums and have the necessary character to pass on your skills to students. Most of your students will likely be beginners initially. And of course you will need to be able to legally work in New Zealand.
Generally our students and tutors build a great rapport so we'd like to think you'll stick around with us long enough for that that happen. Around 30% of our students are adults but the rest are school age children. Many will see you as a role model so you'll have an appropriate character and demeanor around the students as well as a clean police record. Most of our lessons are one-on-one which enables you to modify your teaching style to each student's preferences rather than a one-size-fits-all programme.
We work during school term time and hours are dependent on the number of students we have available but typically is between 4 and 8 hours per week on weekday afternoons in the after-school and early eveing time. If you are able to play more than one instrument then that can help get more hours if you'd like them. Or if you just want a small number of students, then that's fine. We'll build a timetable around you.
We have students waiting so you can start now, or negotiate a start time with us if that suits.
Drop us a line, send us some information about yourself and tell us why you think you'd like this job. If we like what we see we'll have a coffee and a chat and maybe an audition.
